Why transfer pictures onto wood?
- They make great gift ideas.
- They last longer. Especially if you seal the picture with clear spray sealant.
- It will be a great project with the kids.
Even though this project is for a picture transferred to wood, but it can also be used for canvas, leather, polymer clay, glass, or tiles.
You will need:
- A piece of Wood (this project will be using a 3x3x1 board) – Can be picked up at Home Depot or Lowes Store – sometimes it is even free if you ask nicely.
Sandpaper (optional) – https://amzn.to/2OlzbEK - Mirrored Image printed on a regular paper (Size of the image should be 3×3) –
If you need instructions on how to mirror an image, you can find them at this blog article. - Mod Podge – https://amzn.to/2LxqkC6
- Paint Brush – https://amzn.to/2K2eGK7
- Hair Dryer – https://amzn.to/2LZCcJh
- WashCloth or Sponge (To remove paper) – https://amzn.to/2K4kYsq
- Clear Spray Sealant – https://amzn.to/2OqeVCf or https://amzn.to/2AeJhEI
Directions:
- Using the brush, apply a thick layer of Mod Podge on the front paper the image. (Make sure the photo is mirrored)
- Now place the photo side facing the wood. Press the image onto the wood and smooth out the image to remove any air bubbles with a bone folder (https://amzn.to/2LGUi5Z) or the edge of a credit card.
- With a hair dryer set to high, go over image for 5 to 10 minutes. If you don’t have a hair dryer, then let it air dry for about 30 to 40 minutes. Even better if you place it in the sun for about 30 minutes.
- With a damp cloth, lightly wet one corner of the paper. Begin rubbing gently with cloth or with your fingers to remove the paper and expose the image below. Try to remove all the paper residue.
- Lightly sand the edges. (if needed)
- Seal the photo onto the wood with clear spray sealant.
